What Wodify Is, and Who It Fits
A fair read before the comparison: Wodify is a strong platform for the world it was built for.
Wodify grew up in functional fitness — CrossFit boxes and strength gyms — and it is mature and capable in that world. Performance tracking is genuinely strong: workouts, benchmarks, leaderboards and personal records are first-class ideas in the product rather than afterthoughts. It also handles the operational side, with memberships, billing, class scheduling, retention reporting and a member app.
It does serve martial arts, and it markets to martial-arts schools. The important detail is that it serves them on the standard tiers and the same underlying model as every other gym — the martial-arts offering is the general platform with martial-arts language around it, not a separate product built on different concepts.
So the question is not quality. It is shape: does a platform organized around workouts and results fit a business organized around rank and curriculum?
Why BJJ Academies Start Looking Elsewhere
Three friction points that show up once a jiu-jitsu academy runs on a functional-fitness platform for a while.
A belt is not a benchmark
Wodify's performance model is built around measurable workout results — times, loads, personal records. Jiu-jitsu progression does not work that way. A belt is awarded on an instructor's judgment, informed by mat time, time in grade, curriculum covered and how someone actually rolls. A platform that treats progress as a number will happily store your belts. It will not help you decide who is ready for the next one.
The curriculum problem
In BJJ, what gets taught in each class is the curriculum, and it needs to be planned, sequenced and tied to rank. A workout-of-the-day model answers “what are we doing today” very well and “what has this student been taught since they walked in” very poorly. That second question is the one that decides promotions.
What the plan actually costs
Wodify publishes an entry tier and runs a promotion on it; the plans above that are quoted rather than listed, so you cannot budget your real tier from the website. Add card processing on top — the percentage taken off every membership payment usually dwarfs the subscription — and ask for both numbers in writing before you commit.
None of that is a criticism of Wodify's engineering. It is a functional-fitness platform doing functional fitness well.
