Gymdesk is the polished generalist with martial-arts roots, month to month with a 30-day trial. If per-member tiers, the default processing rate or an English-and-Japanese product are the sticking points, here are four alternatives worth a shortlist.
What Gymdesk Is, and Who It Fits
A fair read first: Gymdesk is well made, and its terms are more generous than most of the category.
Gymdesk is a clean, fast gym management platform with real martial-arts roots, priced by active member count: $75 a month up to 50 members, $100 up to 100, $150 up to 200, $200 up to 400, and a tailored Enterprise plan above that, all as of September 1, 2026. Every plan includes the full platform: memberships and billing, attendance, booking, marketing, a website, point-of-sale, reporting, a mobile app and unlimited staff accounts.
It is month to month from day one with no setup fee, no minimum term and a 30-day free trial with no card required. Add-ons are few and published: a branded member app at $100 a month, door access from $100 a month, and $50 a month per additional location. It also lets you bring your own payment processor, which is unusual in this category and worth taking seriously if you already have a good Stripe or Square rate.
So the question is not whether Gymdesk is well made; it is. The question is what per-member pricing, the default processing rate and a generalist model add up to for a jiu-jitsu academy specifically.
Why BJJ Academies Start Looking Elsewhere
Three things to price honestly, including one where Gymdesk wins.
Know which side of the tier lines you are on
At exactly 100 members Gymdesk is $100 a month against Kmura's $150; at 101 it is $150, level; past 200 it is $200. The branded member app is $100 a month extra. For a second location Gymdesk charges $50 a month, cheaper than Kmura's flat $150 per location. Run your own headcount through those lines rather than either vendor's example.
The default processing rate
As published on August 27, 2026, Gymdesk Payments runs 2.9% + 30¢ with ACH at 1% capped at $5. On $14,600 of monthly billing, 100 students at the $146 US average membership from Gold BJJ's State of Jiu Jitsu survey, that is about $44 a month more than 2.6% + 30¢, around $525 a year. Bringing your own processor can beat that if your negotiated rate is good; most academies' is not.

Those are Gymdesk's two listed languages. For an academy with a Brazilian head instructor, Kmura runs the whole product, owner dashboard to student portal, in Brazilian Portuguese as well as English, switchable per person. If your instructors think about the art in Portuguese, that is the difference between software they use and software they work around.
None of that makes Gymdesk a bad platform. It makes it a platform whose pricing and languages fit some academies better than others.
